Our First Time At SoCal Corgi Beach Day!

I had been looking forward to taking my corgi to Corgi Beach Day in Huntington two years prior to even owning a corgi. So when I finally had Willo, and she was finally old enough to go, I booked my trip to head out to the west coast.

We drove out from Phoenix on the day of Corgi Beach Day. Our first few hours were really busy trying to meet people and check out all the vendors that the meetup had to offer, but when we were all tired out it was time to head back to the hotel.

We stayed at the super dog-friendly Kimpton Shorebreak Huntington Beach Resort (Dogs stay free!) and I’ve never felt so pampered in my life. The staff was so excited to see Willo when she walked in and they treated her like the princess that she is. They even upgraded us to a suite.

They were so accommodating with treats, bowls for food and water and dog beds. They also scheduled us a reservation for their restaurant Pacific Hideaway that has a dedicated doggy menu. We chose the fish entree for Willo.

The hotel is located right across the street from the Huntington Beach Pier and has endless shopping and dining options all around it.

Our second day there was filled with exploring the area, hitting up Huntington Dog Beach and then checking out all the fun, dog-friendly restaurants in the area. Willo was experiencing her first Sunday Funday.

When we got up that morning Willo and I headed out to the lobby/outdoor lounge area to sit outside while I drank some coffee. It made me really appreciate having Willo as a companion to hang out with and enjoy the morning with while our friends slept in.

Once everyone was up and ready to go, we headed to Huntington Dog Beach which was only about a mile away. Willo absolutely loved the sand and running around with the other dogs at the beach. I even let her off leash for a little while and she did great (although I still don’t trust her completely). She was a little intimidated by the waves and accidentally got caught up in one which she did not enjoy, but then I gave her a puppuccino that I was saving so I’m sure that made up for it.

After the beach we went back to the hotel and got ready to go out and do some bar hopping. Willo got a bath and a nap, but she was still exhausted from the beach, so we broke out the K9 Sports Pack and carried her on our backs to our first stop (yes we had to take turns carrying her, she’s 25 POUNDS!) The whole area was so dog friendly that we had tons of options.

Some of our favorite places include:

We also loved that the hotel had a complimentary, dog-friendly happy hour every evening from 5pm-6pm and complimentary s’mores every night that you could roast in one of their fire pits outside.

I don’t mean to gush, but Shorebreak made me feel at home and it was the best hotel experience I’ve had in my life.

Overall our stay was way too short, but Willo’s first real vacation and first beach day was a complete success. I can’t wait to go back.

I hope our first “Pet Friendly” blog post was helpful! I can’t wait to do more posts like this one.
